Michelle Whiting of Michelle Whiting
& Associates is a trailblazer in the Non-Profit Industry. Her
tenacity and expertise in the field has helped the Joffrey Ballet
secure funds it may not have been able to obtain on its own. She
is by far the best Foundation Consultant in the United States or
United Kingdom, I have encountered.

When we first contracted with Michelle Whiting to help us with the
identification of new funders, I did not realize all of the other
capabilities, talents and experiences that she would bring to the
relationship, and how much we would benefit
from her services. While some fundraising consultants might focus
on the narrow grants process, Michelle approached our organization
holistically and helped us with strategic planning for program expansion,
board development, staffing and networking within the community.
In particular, Michelle facilitated several new relationships for
us that enabled us to expand our program into Los Angeles two years
ahead of schedule.
Her astute insights into the philanthropic
community and her advice on planning for strategic growth have dramatically
changed our organization’s outlook and sustainability for
the next three years. More importantly, since Michelle brings to
the table a wealth of experiences, we have been able to leapfrog
some typical hurdles and focus our limited internal efforts on opportunities
and efforts with high yield potential. Bottom line: a relationship
with Michelle Whiting produces a very strong return on investment—with
both immediate and sustainable payback.

In both of my professional Development positions in Los Angeles,
I have made hiring Michelle Whiting an important part of strengthening
my Foundation and Government Grant Departments. Michelle's thorough
knowledge of the philanthropic community, her proposal writing skills
and her track record of successful fundraising has served me well
in two very different non profit settings, children's health and
the visual arts.

I have had the pleasure of working with Michelle Whiting & Associates
at several local and national nonprofit organizations and I am continually
impressed by the depth, breadth and quality of the services provided.
Her comprehensive understanding of the philanthropic and service
communities makes her an invaluable resource whether you are in
need of a high level executive search, seeking new funding sources,
or developing programs or proposals.

Working with Michelle Whiting has been one of the most positive
experiences that our board and organization have had. In addition
to identifying a plethora of previously untapped foundation leads
and already bringing an additional $23,000 into our organization,
Michelle has devoted herself to helping us reimagine what is possible—even
in these extremely tough times. Her insight, dedication and integrity
have challenged all of us to grow beyond the initial vision we had
for ourselves and this work. Michelle is much more than a development
consultant. She has become one of our biggest supporters and strongest
advocates.

An investment in Michelle Whiting and Associates will generate revenue
many times in excess of her fees. However, as her client we have
received so much more. Michelle’s effectiveness is extraordinary,
an unusual consultant who does more than speak in clichés,
she delivers work that is relevant to our agency’s needs.

There are few people with as comprehensive and astute understanding
of the nonprofit organization as Michelle Whiting. Although her
primary expertise is financial development, her approach to ensuring
structural stability for every organization integrates a wide knowledge
of programming, a keen eye for capacity enhancement and extensive
experience with human resource development, both staff and volunteer.

Michelle Whiting understands nonprofits. She is not only well respected
in the Los Angeles foundation and nonprofit arena, but also her
natural instincts for quickly understanding an organization, allow
one to set a record breaking pace for moving forward with fundraising
strategies. Her high energy, no-nonsense, efficient approach was
a breath of fresh air; she quickly became a valued teammate for
me and a fast friend.

Common Threads
I have been privileged to work with Michelle Whiting on behalf of
two very different non-profit organizations. One is a small, artist-run,
modestly budgeted contemporary fine arts organization, and the other
is a private school with a progressive educational philosophy and
a three million dollar budget. What has impressed me is that in
both circumstances, Michelle has taken the time to study and guage
each organization's specific challenges, and then works forward
from a place of real understanding. She does not offer simple "cookie
cutter" solutions to complex and unique situations. What's
more, Michelle is very generous in sharing valuable suggestions
and advice for how to proceed once her consultancy is completed.
She is fun to work with and she is passionate about her work—a
great combination!

Michelle Whiting’s consultancy practice has proven itself
over and over again as a great resource for me and the organization’s
I’ve represented. Outsourcing is often times a nonprofits
best solution/investment. For 15 years Whiting and Associates has
delivered consistent, predictable results. They say, “A rising
tide lifts all boats.” Michelle Whiting inspires a tide of
professionalism—her insight and intelligence about our industry
is unmatched and has provided me a touchstone in all of my leadership
roles.
